Our Tennessee Roots Run Deep

The modern amenities of Bear Creek Lodge are steeped in a rich history that dates back to 1798. Throughout many decades, the property has been a working farm passed down through members of the Acuff family tree. Today, it lies in the trusted hands of proprietors, the Page family. Mark Page, the grandson of Warren Acuff, began constructing the first guesthouse on the property in 2016, repurposing reclaimed materials from the homes of his grandparents and great-grandparents. As you explore the grounds of the farm and make yourself at home during your stay, take a good look around at what started as a 10 year old boy’s dream. Historical photographs adorn the walls, hinting of a past that is preserved in what is now a premier Tennessee vacation destination.

If Our Walls Could Talk

If our walls could talk, they would captivate you with stories of a rich and fascinating past. Constructed with reclaimed wood from homes of the property’s past owners, our guesthouses are full of historic charm. The first guesthouse was constructed in 2016, but the property has been an integral part of the Washburn community since 1798 when the first parcel of farmland was purchased by the Acuff family.

All in the Family

Bear Creek Farm has been passed down through generations of the Acuff family and now lies in the trusted hands of Mark Page and his family. Mark grew up visiting his great grandparents, Rabe and Ollie, when they owned the farm and a small convenience store near their property. Mark would often help out with small chores around the farm and reward himself with candy from his great-grandparents’ store. As Mark grew up, the farm grew and evolved, and it was eventually passed down to his grandparents, Warren and Dorris. Some of Mark’s fondest memories are helping his grandfather around the farm on the weekends and listening to his stories. When Mark entered his early teenage years, he told his grandfather, “I’m going to build a cabin at the farm one day.” Mark’s grandfather would smile and say, “Okay, buddy.”

Okay, Buddy. It’s Time.

Mark rented a bulldozer and started constructing a cabin at Bear Creek Farm in 2016, only three days after his grandfather, Warren, passed away. Mark honors his grandfather’s memory through every project on the property. As you walk the grounds and rest in your beautifully crafted guesthouse, take note of the photographs you see that honor the generations of the family that kept the farm going for so many years.

Planning Your Stay at Bear Creek

We’ve thought of everything so you don’t have to. Here are answers to the most common questions our guests ask before they arrive.

Do I need to book experiences in advance?

Premium experiences like massages, guided hikes, and private dinners should be scheduled ahead of time. Others - like paddleboards and lawn games—are ready when you are.

What gear is provided?

We provide all equipment for kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, yard games, and more. Just let our team know what you need during your stay.

Can I just relax and do nothing?

Of course. Many guests come here to unplug. Enjoy coffee on the porch, read by the fire, or simply soak in the silence and nature around you.

Are activities included?

Yes. Most experiences are complimentary with your stay—like fishing, trails, games, and bonfires. Some guided or private options may have an additional fee.

Is it family-friendly?

Very much so. Kids love meeting the goats and chickens, playing games, splashing in the creeks, and exploring the wide-open fields.
